Book Spine Locker Art

These Lockers Feature Hand-Painted Novel Spines to Encourage Reading

A group of teachers at Mississippi's Biloxi Junior High have taken their summer to hand-paint locker art. However, this is not just interesting graffiti painted onto lockers -- the paintings are actually book spines and novel titles to encourage more reading among the youth.

The English hallway at the high school now looks like library shelves filled with colorful books. The locker art of book spines range from classic literature such as To Kill a Mockingbird and Moby Dick to teen-adored novels such as Twilight and The Hunger Games.

The book spines were painted to increase discussion among students and spark them with curiosity about books without ever having to enter the library. This larger than life library hallway was funded with $600 that was provided by "Biloxi First, public donations and personal contributions."
