Book-Inspired Public Benches

Madrid City Council Launched the Sit Down to Read 2024 Campaign

This spring, the Madrid City Council — with support from JCDecaux, Dentsu, and Penguin Random House, launched the Sit Down to Read 2024 campaign. This initiative featured 26 book-shaped benches scattered across nine districts of Madrid until June 22.

The Sit Down to Read 2024 campaign was designed to encourage reading and support local bookstores and libraries. The design of the benches drew inspiration from literary works and authors. Each piece of public infrastructure included QR codes that link to downloadable content, such as a book of iconic Madrid recipes.

The Sit Down to Read 2024 campaign works to enhance public spaces by integrating literature into everyday urban environments. The initiative is part of the lead-up to the Madrid Book Fair, an event that aims to foster a reading culture and draw attention to local literary resources.
