Lisa Hanawalt illustrates sunny and hilarious works. Her pieces are often highly satirical, criticizing pop culture -- or the seriousness of it, anyway. She uses bright colors and simple composition, allowing her works to be highly engaging and relatable. Hanawalt's compositions can be quite striking. Her depictions of sexuality are quite explicit and uncomfortable. She also has a piece featuring a series of characters farting: Just Darling. Also memorable is a series of animal portraits wearing ridiculous avant-garde fashion.
Lisa Hanawalt lives in Brooklyn and graduated from UCLA in 2006. The young artist has already had an extremely successful career. Her work has been published in such major publications as The New York Times, Bloomberg View, Lucky Peach Magazine and Vanity Fair.
