Light Into Darkness is a project by French artist Alexandre Henry that transforms furniture and objects salvaged from war-affected regions in Ukraine into sculptural works repaired with metal sourced from demilitarised Russian missiles. Henry collected broken chairs, door frames, and window frames during his visits to areas such as Izium, Kharkiv, and Kherson while working with Dutch Civilian Action.
These items were treated as physical records of destruction, and he used Ukrainian foundries to melt missile fragments into cast components that replaced missing sections. The approach positions each object as a material portrait shaped by conflict and reconstruction.
The project includes repaired dining chairs, a damaged door supported by brass feet, and window frames presented alongside portraits printed on fragments of walls. Henry developed the series during extended stays in Kyiv and continues to expand the work in collaboration with civilians who have experienced injury.
