This Cardboard Guitar Challenges Traditional Instrument Design

— December 5, 2025 — Lifestyle
This Cardboard guitar is a fully functional electric guitar built by Burls Art that uses recycled corrugated cardboard laminated with resin to form both body and neck. The resulting instrument weighs only 4.42 pounds and relies on laminates where most of the internal volume remains hollow, making the construction roughly 70 per cent air while still rigid enough to route, shape, and fret like a conventional guitar.

The build incorporates a resin-saturated neck to withstand string tension and a body carved with standard contours, including belly and arm bevels for comfort. Hardware mounting required creative reinforcement solutions, such as a resin backplate under the bridge and magnet-held electronics covers. This guitar delivers usable action and holds tuning under string tension with a lightweight and unique material composition
