City-Linking Pedestrian Bridges

The Liberty Bridge Would Link Manhattan and Jersey City

The Liberty Bridge is a proposed pedestrian bridge that would link Manhattan and Jersey City. The two cities aren't actually that far away, but the presence of the Hudson River means that getting from one to the other requires taking a circular route or getting on the super-crowded PATH (Port Authority Trans-Hudson) System.

This bridge would feature a multitude of routes including upper levels for warm and sunny days and protected lower paths to keep out the elements on unpleasant days. The bridge will also be equipped with free WiFi, retail spaces, grassy areas and benches, while elevators and ramps will be in place to make them accessible. The proposal also calls for the use of wind turbines and solar panels to take care of power needs.

Not only would the Liberty Bridge make it easier to get between Manhattan and Jersey City, it would also make it more pleasant and could eventually become a tourist attraction of sorts.
