Illuminated Seated Chamber Skylights

James Turnell Designs the Leading Skyspace in a School

American artist James Turnell created the Leading Skyspace, which is a bright skylight and seating chamber located in New York City. It is in the Friends Seminary private school and it is made up of a small room lined with wooden seats where viewers can look through an opening surrounded by color-changing LED lights.

This is one of the 85 Skyspaces, which are integrated throughout the world. The team explains, "During the day, the aperture will be closed, and an immersive light show will be displayed, providing an artful extension of the campus. During sunset, the aperture will be opened, and the space will be exposed to the unobstructed sky, with a curated internal light sequence that complements the nuances of those times."
