The Players' Tribune featured an article called 'Letter to My Younger Self' by LA Lakers alumni Kobe Bryant. The heartfelt and honest message is filled with hindsight. The personal letter serves to give fans and his own family some background on what the star player truly feels and the reasoning behind some of his intimate decisions.
He starts off with emphasizing how important it is to invest in his loved ones, and not simply to give. Though he felt joy in buying material things for his family and friends, Kobe believes it stopped them from growing and finding independence. Instead, he advises his younger self to use his wealth, success and influence to place them in a position where they could eventually achieve their own dreams. Throughout the letter, the retired basketball player weaves a few personal details in about the difficulties and troubles he faced because of his initial desire to give.
