Colorful Mediterranean Homes

La Casa Olive E Capperi Transforms a 484-Square-Foot Residence

La Casa Olive e Capperi is a 484-square-foot renovation by architect Valentina Autiero located within an olive grove on Italy's Sorrento Peninsula. Working within the existing load-bearing walls and original ceiling structure, the redesign organizes the home into two primary zones while preserving its vaulted and sloped roof forms. The entrance opens directly into a sea-facing living area, while the bedroom overlooks the surrounding garden through a restored window. Existing openings remain uncovered, allowing natural light to shape the interiors throughout the day.

Purple, yellow, and olive green finishes reference the surrounding Mediterranean landscape, complemented by terrazzo flooring and continuous black-and-white graphic detailing that frames the kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. Circular stained-glass windows, rectangular sea-facing openings, and symmetrical round windows introduce varied light conditions across the compact interior. Bespoke furnishings include a yellow dining table, translucent violet chairs, integrated storage, and geometric headboard detailing inspired by traditional crocheted textiles.
