Cedar Shingled House Designs

Waechter Architecture Completed the Contemporary Dune House

Waechter Architecture — a Pacific Northwest-based interdisciplinary design practice known for its clear organization, thoughtful integration, and refined material palette — has completed Dune House. This residential project, which is located along the northern Oregon Coast, strikes a balance between contextual sensitivity to the local landscape and building traditions. The building's silhouette creates a timeless and iconic form through a simple box plan clad in weathering cedar shingles, one of the most prevalent building materials in the region. The façade is paired with a restrained interior palette of oak flooring and panelling with minimal trim.

The Dune House's design is organized around a streamlined concept centered on a skylit interior courtyard and multi-purpose space, which is framed by two private bedroom suites, a kitchen and dining alcove, and service and support spaces.
