the La Brea Affordable Housing Project Takes Place in LA

The La Brea Affordable Housing Project is the latest Social Housing Revival case study in America. It takes place in West Hollywood, where the complex noted is designed by Patrick Tighe and John Mutlow with mixed-use construction for the West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation. There are 32 residential units that provide a home for people who are living with disabilities, young LGBTQ+ who struggle with homelessness, and more.

Los Angeles architect Mutlow told Dezeen "We were trying to fit into that environment – a preservation environment which you respect and love, rather than fitting into a slightly more mundane environment." The client and designers both wanted to create a housing solution that would be appear at market-rate and contribute to the community positively. He continues, "The housing needs to look like it's market-rate housing," Mutlow said. "It doesn't need to be identifiable as something other than what would fit into a normal environment."
