Knitchen is a clever name for the knitted kitchen installation that currently graces the Warwick Art Gallery in Queensland, Australia. Whether inspired by the possibility of the name itself or the idea of taking on a complex space, the knitted kitchen installation is an impressive one. As one would expect, the entire space has been yarn-bombed, including the stream of water from the tap to the counters and even the checkered floor.
Tirelessly created by a total of 50 artists, the knitted kitchen installation took seven months to create. Karina Devine, the Warwick’s gallery director, says, “The most exciting part for me was creating the crocheted gas flame, and hand sewing the orange flecks.That gives me a little bit of a kick every time I see it.” That is dedication to detail.
