Lucy Sparrow’s Bourdon Street Chippy Stitches a Full Chippy World in Felt

— August 7, 2025 — Art & Design
The Lucy Sparrow Bourdon Street Chippy installation recreates a British fish and chip shop entirely from felt, immersing visitors in soft nostalgia. Located at a Mayfair gallery from August 1 to September 14, this tactile pop-up features over 65,000 hand-stitched pieces, including 15 distinct chip shapes across five golden hues and a glass cabinet stocked with felt pies, battered fish, mushy peas, and condiment bottles.

Visitors step into the space and encounter familiar chippy banquette booths, checkered tablecloths embroidered menus, and a wall gallery of felted portraits of typically British celebrity patrons. Even the drinks fridge, notices, and quirky floor signs are lovingly rendered in fabric. Every detail is available for purchase, transforming the exhibit into both art and tongue-in-cheek retail.

With its handcrafted precision and comforting humor, the Chippy softens everyday culture into something to touch, smile at, and remember — a felt homage to the routines that make a place feel like home.
