The Kitsap Humane Society in Silverdale, Washington, recently launched a unique initiative to increase adoption rates. Instead of waiting for prospective owners to come and visit the shelter, the organization is hoping to entice consumers into adopting the playful pooches during their daily coffee run.
The coffee shop adoption initiative was launched by Kitsap Humane Society volunteer Molly Clark. Clark realized that the dogs at the shelter were more likely to be adopted if more prospective owners could see them. As a result, she began taking one dog every Tuesday to her local Starbucks to enjoy a special treat called a 'Puppuccino.' Each week, the Starbucks also puts up a flier for the four-legged visitor so that interested customers can find out more information.
With so many dogs waiting for new owners, the initiatives helps prospective pet owners find their perfect match.
