Artist Kara Gunter's 'Trial by Fire' collection set her ceramic pieces afire. The unusual ashen finish is based on lengthy considerations, the most significant of which is the process of rebirth that comes with fire and devastation.
Flames often give life to new organisms and plant life as grounds becomes spotted with fertile bits of ash. Gunter's fusion of clay with extremely hot temperatures works in these notions of death and birth as the fire reworks her original designs.
The white products are also made to imitate the look of salt, a substance that like fire is also purifying. The motifs come together quite nicely as a whole with Gunter's outstretched hands, hovering feet and miniature egg collection, all available on her Etsy page.
