The JAL Table Lamp Changes Light Direction When Flipped

— January 27, 2026 — Art & Design
The JAL table lamp changes light direction when flipped, using two glass cones joined tip-to-tip to form an hourglass silhouette around a centered bulb. Designed by Barcelona studio Som by Mos, the lamp is offered in transparent or frosted glass, with the bulb appearing to float inside the double-cone body. A visible power cable is part of the design and comes in multiple color options.

With the bulb facing upward, JAL functions like a conventional table lamp, casting light onto nearby walls and ceilings. When turned upside down, the bulb points toward the surface below, creating a more concentrated pool of light on a sideboard, desk, or bedside table. The transparent version emphasizes reflections and the bulb’s outline, while the frosted version diffuses the glow for a softer effect.
