The 'iSki Ischgl' App Guides Guests on Historic Smuggling Trails

For serious skiers, back-country skiing is the only way to truly appreciate the sport, and the iSki Ischgl app is more than happy to oblige. Beyond simply showing guests the best back-country routes, the app uses GPS to guide skiers through smugglers' routes that were used to transport goods between Austria and Switzerland in decades past.

Ischgl resort is in the Austrian Alps, and it shares slopes with Samnaun resort in Switzerland (which is in the Swiss Alps.) In the past, Austrian smugglers would fill their packs with goods and ski to Switzerland, avoiding tariffs in order to make profits on trades. While the smuggling has subsided, the routes remain intact, and the iSki Ischgl app will help guests to chart them when they go out to ski.
