Instagram's 'Close Friends' Lets You Share Content with Select People

Millennials often opt to create separate social media accounts where they can share more personal content with a closely curated group of people, and Instagram's 'Close Friends' feature was designed to make this process easier.

The new function now enables users to sort through their contacts, creating unique groups that they're comfortable with sharing different content with, without logging out of their account. This move is twofold as it builds loyalty between the user and the social media app, while helping Instagram better decipher fake or spam accounts.

The feature can be found on the top of one's profile. To ease the process, Instagram has selected a few accounts which a user frequently interacts with, serving as a helpful aid in the selection of one's carefully curated friends list.
