Since infant sleep a factor in the death of more than 4,000 babies each year, the Sleep Guardian 360 was designed as a new way to keep young children safe overnight.
The sleeping pod is one-directional, so that it's only possible for parents to place a newborn in the chamber one way. Just above where a child's head will rest, there is an overhang that protect's the infant's air space. If an object like a blanket or a pillow were to fall onto this bridge, an internal alarm will alert caregivers.
The portable pod is suited for use anywhere, for infants up to six months old. Moving forward, 10 prototypes are in development that will be tested with parents before a crowdfunding campaign is launched for the product.
