Hot cross buns are already a delicious breakfast treat for the Easter season, but now the sweet bread can also be enjoyed as a dessert in the form of the new Hot Cross Bun Cone. Developed by Auckland-based Giapo’s R&D Kitchen, the hybrid cone offers consumers a delicious new way to enjoy freshly baked buns.
True to its name, the Hot Cross Bun Cone is a cross between a sweet bun and an ice cream cone. The bun itself is baked with a smattering of orange juice-soaked raisins and a flavorful blend of cinnamon spice, cloves, and candied orange peel. The bun is warmed and then split in half so that it can be filled with the customer's choice of dairy-based or vegan ice cream. Finally, the whole thing is served atop a crispy waffle cone.
