This Hippocras recipe takes an Ancient Egyptian spiced wine recipe and turns it into a truly delectable contemporary spiced wine cocktail. This drink is intended to function as a post-meal digestive or dessert drink, but can be drunk anytime.
To prepare, add red wine, water, caster sugar, cinnamon, ground cloves, nutmeg, lavender buds and crushed cardamom pods to a pan and heat slowly. Heat until the sugar has completely dissolved and the liquid begins to simmer. Once the liquid reaches that point, strain it through a fine sieve to remove all the spice particles. Leave to cool before serving.
This Hippocras beverage is perfect for feasts and festive events, as well as any time you find yourself fiending for a drink that is at once warming and refreshing.
