This Hippocras recipe takes an Ancient Egyptian spiced wine recipe and turns it into a truly delectable contemporary spiced wine cocktail. This drink is intended to function as a post-meal digestive or dessert drink, but can be drunk anytime.
To prepare, add red wine, water, caster sugar, cinnamon, ground cloves, nutmeg, lavender buds and crushed cardamom pods to a pan and heat slowly. Heat until the sugar has completely dissolved and the liquid begins to simmer. Once the liquid reaches that point, strain it through a fine sieve to remove all the spice particles. Leave to cool before serving.
