The Halsskov Water Sports Center Uses Upcycled Goods to Create Fun Spaces
Justin Lam — January 26, 2018 — Eco
The Halsskov water sports center is an impressive space designed by Sweco architects. Built with upcycled containers, this innovative water sports center looks to revive the old Halsskov ferry port. The theme of sustainability runs throughout the entire design of this building. Upcycled shipping containers, recycled wooden decks, sustainable forest wood and eco friendly LEDs build up the center and ensure it is not just aesthetically beautiful, but also environmentally conscious.
The most iconic feature of the Halsskov water sports center are the diving towers that stand over the entire space. Designed for jumps from 4, 8 and 11 meters, the distinct yellow containers stand out in the relatively ground level landscape. These large diving platforms serve as the center piece for the space and are comprised of three stacked shipping containers. This design choice by Sweco architects works as something playful and fitting with the landscape. They play with the history of the ferry port, while providing an impressive centerpiece to the Halsskov water sports center.
