Centralbadet is designed to renew Gothenburg’s aquatic and community life through a new lens by Henning Larsen, blending sport, leisure, and gathering spaces in one comprehensive facility. The project was developed to serve both elite athletes and everyday residents, creating a hub where competition, recreation, and wellness coexist. Olympic-standard pools, family-friendly baths, fitness halls, and wellness areas are complemented by cafés and flexible community zones that encourage connection beyond sport.
Sustainability is central to the design, with timber construction, green roofs, and daylight strategies reducing environmental impact while enhancing user experience. Positioned along the river, Centralbadet also integrates into the wider urban landscape, linking parks and pedestrian routes with civic infrastructure. More than a swimming facility, the project aspires to act as a cultural landmark and social anchor for Gothenburg, celebrating architecture as a tool for health, inclusion, and shared identity.
