Lifelike Insect Desserts

Akai Tento no Koohii Ten's Gummy Bugs are Filled with Jams

At first glance, the gummy bugs sold by Japanese coffee stall Akai Tento no Koohii Ten, which translates to The Red Tent Coffee Shop, look disgusting real. So much so that people's gag reflex will probably kick in when first taking a bite. That is, unless they already have a taste for gummy bugs. Yet looks aside, this lifelike insect dessert is a delicacy that many will enjoy once getting over their initial doubts.

Made by hand and filled with flavored jams, the gummy bugs are shaped like slugs, rhinoceros beetle larvae and more. The main criteria appears to be slimier the better. One of the gummy bugs are said to taste like the yogurt flavored drink Calpis while another is filled with sweet blueberry jelly.
