Accessible Nature Park Initiatives

Grandfather Mountain Expands Its Accessibility Initiatives

Grandfather Mountain, a not-for-profit nature park operated by the Grandfather Mountain Stewardship Foundation, has expanded its accessibility initiatives by installing free, ADA-accessible viewfinders at Half Moon Overlook. Another set of these is soon to be placed at the Mile High Swinging Bridge.

The viewfinders feature EnChroma's patented lens technology, which enables individuals with color blindness to experience a broader spectrum of hues and shades that they would otherwise not perceive. These are available to guests at no cost, and their presence complements the park's existing accessibility features. These include the elevator to the Swinging Bridge, fully wheelchair-accessible buildings, an ADA-compliant shuttle with a Braun Lift, and a policy welcoming trained service animals.

Grandfather Mountain's purchase of these viewfinders was supported by the North Carolina Science Museums Grant Program.
