As well as being more diligent with washing their hands, people are responding to the global pandemic by being more mindful of the surfaces they come into contact with—including the germs on phones. Centrepeace is a concept mobile phone sterilization unit that offers a safe place for diners to store their device as they eat, which is useful for bringing attention to the fact that phones should be cleaned more often in general.
Centrepeace is one of the winning designs to come out of Bompas & Parr's Fountain Of Hygiene competition, which tasked designers with rethinking hand sanitizing with an aesthetic and functional approach. Inspired by family meals in lockdown, the winner in the Hygiene Innovation Beyond the Sanitizer category helps to support both hygiene and reduced screen time.
