I really love these unique watercolor portraits of individuals and groups of gay men, painted by artist Geoffrey Chadsey. They are raw and full of attitude.
The paintings were part of his second solo show, entitled ‘You, and Other Unknowing Subjects,’ which was exhibited at the New York based Jack Shainman Gallery.
Chadsey uses the media of watercolor pencil on mylar, and bases his portraits on images and photographs from the internet, a mix of his own photos, magazines and friends and family albums. He captures today’s culture in a rough and realistic style with often rude or sexual scenarios, but also captures the hidden beauty which often appears out of the common place.
