Glimmering Crystal Sculptures

Fredrikson Stallard Used 8,000 Swarovski Crystals for this Sculpture

'Prologue is a shimmering new art installation created by London-based designers Fredrikson Stallard for Swarovski. The giant disc-shaped sculpture is embedded with over 8,000 glittering golden Swarovski crystal droplets and is intended to mimic the sun, using its crystalline structure to reflect and refract light. The sculpture is on display at the Art Basel Hong Kong exhibition.

The luminous structure somehow manages to blend simplicity and grandeur as it plays with and transforms natural light to capture the attentions of passers-by. Fredrikson Stallard aimed to make observers feel an instant relationship with the sun by bathing them in light drawn from the surrounding environment and refreshed by the Swarovski crystals.

Nadja Swarovski, member of Swarovski's executive board, described Prologue as "a symbol of change and mutability: just as night follows day, nothing remains the same."
