Artificial intelligence solutions company Hypergiant helped develop the Flanagan AI, the world's first AI bartender/mixologist program. Named after Tom Cruise's character in the 1988 film Cocktail, Flanagan will be used by TGI Friday's customers -- via the brand's app -- and can provide suggestions based on food choices or preferences. Flanagan will also be able to create off-menu cocktails based on a specific flavor profile or a customer's mood.
The Flanagan AI will use voice and chat interactions, learning algorithms and deep databanks to create a unique bartending experience. The program is being presented to TGI Friday's as a template, with the hopes that through further interaction, the AI can better learn customer preferences.
Flanagan is an interesting use of AI simply because of its focused design. Unlike Watson by IBM, Flanagan is focused on one challenge and seeks to actively solve a particular issue. This idea is echoed by Hypergiant as the company firmly believes that "AI isn’t magic... It’s just work."
