Axelrad’s Humans vs. Machines Pits Bartenders Against ChatGPT

At a time when some people fear job loss to AI, Houston’s Axelrad bar decided to test human ingenuity against the relentless advance of machines with the Humans vs. Machines menu. As part of the challenge, bartenders and ChatGPT received the prompts, such as to create a “fruity frozen drink.” This specific prompt resulted in the human-made Mango-rad-a and the AI-generated GPT’s Island Bliss.

Shortly after the menu was introduced, customers had the chance to order half portions of each of the drinks and vote for their favorite. The Mango-rad-a, a frozen mango daiquiri with tamarind and Tajin, is a creation from the winning team that has since secured a permanent spot on the menu at Axelrad.

While AI excels at generating recipe inspiration, its limitations became evident as part of this challenge, with Axelrad owner Adam Brackman observing that ChatGPT tended to create cocktails solely comprised of liqueurs.
