Nature-Mirroring Home Additions

F2A Architecture Completes an Extension to a Private Home in BC

The ‘Melinka Gallery’ is the project name for an extension to a private home that was headed by Canadian studio F2A Architecture. Located in Naramata, a community in the Okanagan Valley, the main dwelling was designed and completed in 2003 by Florian Maurer, founder of F2A Architecture. While Maurer lived there for a number of years, the house was sold in 2015. Not long after that, the new owners reached out to the firm with a request for “a multipurpose space and private art gallery.”

The extension wasn’t without its challenges as the house is located on a rocky site with a slope. The solution was “a rectangular box that is supported by slim, steel posts rising up from the site.” With an emphasis on not obstructing the view, the extension is partially made with stainless steel with a mirror finish that successfully reflects the sky and the forest.
