Päivä Architekti has completed a home extension in Luka pod Medníkem, Czech Republic, adding a new living and studio volume to an early 20th-century house set on a steep valley slope. The extension is positioned at the edge of the site overlooking the Sázava River and is connected to the original dwelling by a covered terrace. A mature oak tree is integrated into this transitional space, allowing the new structure to sit lightly within the landscape while preserving long views toward the valley and surrounding forest.
The extension is constructed using a steel and timber frame and clad in larch, chosen for its durability and ability to weather naturally within the wooded setting. Large sliding windows open the interior toward the landscape, while the interior layout prioritises flexibility and openness. Integrated furniture and timber finishes reinforce a restrained material palette that complements the existing house.
