A group of researchers and engineers working out of the University of Pennsylvania have developed an exceptionally ingenious and truly high-tech CT scanner system that is designed to be able to quickly and easily scan and image horses while they are fully conscious and upright.

What's great about this system is that it allows for medical imagery to be captured from a wide variety of angles, meaning the horse doesn't have to be administered anesthesia to undergo the procedure.

Designed with race horses in mind, this equine CT scanner technology is designed to increase the likelihood of diagnosing stress fractures early in order to prevent them from suffering a breakdown whilst in the middle of a race.
