By 2015, the Netherlands will provide over 16 million people with electric car charging stations. The stations will be extremely convenient for electric car drivers, located no more than 50km apart. These 200 fast car-charging stations are gradually being introduced across the country in partnership with Fastned and ABB.
These charging stations will have solar cell canopies on their roofs to reduce energy demands during peak periods. The charging stations will be able to top up an electric car's battery in anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. As well, to make these stations even more convenient, they will integrate cloud-connected payment systems, provide remote assistance and track usage.
One of Fastned's founders, Bart Lubbers describes that the Netherland's initiative will perpetuate the "race towards faster charging and larger batteries throughout the car industry."
