While most eco washing machines are dedicated to reducing wasted water, Arçelik is introducing a first-of-its-kind design with a built-in filtration system that will help to keep synthetic microfibers from being released into city sewers and bodies of water, ultimately helping it to avoid ending up in the food we eat. As it stands, more than a million microplastic fibers go from the drain to the ocean with each load of laundry—but Arçelik's innovative laundry machine has the potential to capture 90% of the microplastic fibers.
When Arçelik unveiled its new technology at IFA, CEO Hakan Bulgurlu stated: "We’re applying for patents, but we will not pursue any intellectual property protection, and we invite our competition to use this technology."
