Duolingo Features an Updated 'High Valyrian' Course

The Duolingo High Valyrian course has been updated in advance of the release of 'House of the Dragon,' a new HBO series set in the universe of 'A Song of Ice and Fire.' This fantasy world was popularized greatly by 'A Game of Thrones,' a long-running HBO series that ended in 2019. During the original run time of this series, Duolingo created a 'High Valyrian' course to drive engagement toward its platform while teaching A Game of Thrones fans to speak one of the fantasy languages from the series.

The new course features an additional 150 words over the original. These words were created and added through a collaboration with David J. Peterson, the fantasy linguist responsible for bringing the language to television screens in the first place. With these 150 words combined with previously existing words, the Duolingo course will teach fans over 700 sentences that are tied to the upcoming HBO series House of the Dragon.
