DevBot Lets Roborace Coders Practice Their Algorithms

DevBot is a tool for programmers to work on their robotic racing algorithms. With Roborace, the "Formula-E" racing circuit set to roll out self-driving cars for races, developers needed a way to test their racing algorithms on a real track before the prototype race cars themselves are fully built. DevBot is a self-driving race car that fulfills that need.

While the DevBot prototype is significantly different from the vehicles that will eventually race in Roborace, it is nonetheless a speedy vehicle that can accept programming as its operative input. The benefit of the DevBot, as compared to the Roborace prototypes themselves, is that the DevBot has room to be driven by a human, too. This lets programmers compare their code to the performance of professional racers, giving them the opportunity to hone their robotic lap times.
