Ice Que's Dessert Sandwich Uses a Funnel Cake Bun to Serve Ice Cream
Laura McQuarrie — April 29, 2015 — Lifestyle
Enjoying ice cream and funnel cake are both great ways to satisfy your sweet tooth in the summer months, so it's hardly a wonder that Ice Que decided to combine the two in the form of an easy-to-eat dessert sandwich.
Chef John Park describes that he has "always wanted to incorporate funnel cake into dessert" and experimented with this festival food favorite as a garnish or an edible tic-tac-toe board in his dishes in the past. Park has finally found satisfaction in the creation of what he calls the 'Funnelle Cake Ice Cream Sandwich.' This mashup snack is made with two deep-fried funnel cake patties that sandwich a scoop of vanilla-mascarpone ice cream and strawberry jam. The combination of a hot funnel cake with a cold scoop of ice cream may not sound comparable in terms of logistics, but all the components hold together miraculously well.
After Dominique Ansel created the Cronut, dozens of creative chefs are trying to come up with the hybrid food item that will be the next big hit.
