The Chocolate Chessboard by Key Design is based on an old Croatian legend. The Croatian king would play chess with the Italian king on the islands and the Croatian Coast would be the winning prize.

Chocolate Chess instead rewards the winner with a delectable treat--the opponent's game pieces. The word ‘checkmate’ never sounded so delicious.

Implications - The ability to eat a product that one would otherwise not be eaten can be an appealing aspect of a product for many consumers. Not only providing novelty, offbeat edibles turn eating into a playful and fun affair, which also relieves the pressures of everyday living as it reminds adults of playing with their food as children.
