Three Chinese telecommunication companies are teaming up on the China Tower plan, a joint venture that will offer triple-play services to the residents of Karamay. Three state-owned operators and Karamay Radio and Television Transmission Co completed the project recently.
In all the city's residential areas, 100 Mbps fiber connections have been installed. This enables operators to provide data, video and voice services at a 60% discount compared to the national average in China. The China Tower project also reduced investment in the telecom infrastructure by an estimated 75% and decreased maintenance costs by an expected 50%.
Considered a model for triple-play networks, Karamay is in accord with the government's network construction consolidation plans to eliminate duplication and enhance efficiency.
