Hollow Core Fiber Innovations

Scala Data Centers, Lightera, and Nokia Test AccuCore HCF™

A consortium comprising Scala Data Centers, Lightera, and Nokia has successfully concluded a technological trial in Latin America involving a novel hollow core fiber known as AccuCore HCF™. This innovation, which guides light through a central air channel rather than solid glass, was tested within a data center environment and demonstrated a measurable decrease in signal delay — which is also referred to as latency — of approximately one-third when compared to conventional fiber optics.

The test of the hollow core fiber was facilitated by Scala's infrastructure, with Lightera providing the specialized cable and Nokia supplying the transmission equipment. While the current effective range of this technology is limited to relatively short distances, the results indicate a potential performance enhancement for data-intensive computational tasks that are sensitive to transmission speed.
