Low-Latency Network Services

Comcast Introduced an Update to Xfinity Focused on Low-Latency Gaming

Comcast has introduced ultra-low latency technology for its Xfinity Internet service, aimed at enhancing the online experience for applications requiring real-time interactions, such as gaming, video conferencing, and virtual reality. This new technology, based on the Low Latency, Low Loss, Scalable (L4S) open standard, significantly reduces latency, making internet connections feel faster and more responsive. The initial deployment includes select partners such as Apple, Meta, NVIDIA, and Valve, with services like FaceTime, GeForce NOW, Meta's mixed reality apps, and games from Valve's Steam platform already supporting this technology.

The initial rollout of this low-latency service has begun in cities like Atlanta, Chicago, and San Francisco, with plans to expand to additional locations in the coming months. The new technology will be available to all Xfinity Internet customers, with other developers also able to utilize the open standard to improve latency-sensitive applications. Comcast's commitment to network innovation aims to meet the growing demand for a smoother and more responsive online experience, ensuring that users can fully benefit from interactive and real-time applications.
