For the celebration of the Japanese film animation firm Studio Ghibli's 30th anniversary, a life-size replica of the boat featured in the 'Castle in the Sky' movie was made with moving parts for the Studio Ghibli Expo. The ship is an exact replica of the cartoon version seen in the film complete with moving propellers, oars and lights that capture the essence of the airborne ship.
Studio Ghibli is known for being one of the top producers of anime cinematography and the 'Castle in the Sky' is one of the firm's most critically acclaimed works. The installation that honors the film features a three dimensional large-scale version of the boat made from light paper material. The ship is suspended from the ceiling with elements that are constantly in motion, while lights illuminate the ship from within.
