Volvo is expanding its high-tech cloud-based system, under development for some time now, that will let cars share information on hazardous road conditions.
Unlike other car-to-car information-sharing initiatives that focus on cutting down on congestion, this particular project focuses on road conditions. For driver, it essentially functions as a 'newsletter' of road condition updates that are localized and made relevant depending on where you are.
It is hoped that future versions of the technology will see cars share information in order to promote safer traffic, more comfortable driving and improved traffic flow, and of course reducing and perhaps even completely eliminating deaths due to motor accidents.
Volvo is a company that has long been known for manufacturing extremely safe cars. This technology is an example of the company taking its philosophy forward in a technological sense.
