Creature-Shaped Cabins

This Cabin on Stilts Was Built to Look Like a Woodland Creature

Students at the RTU International Summer School in Latvia have built an amazing cabin on stilts in a meadow, which they call the 'Wild Thing.'

The Wild Thing cabin on stilts was built as part of a project to beautify the public park surrounding a historic castle in Cesis, Latvia. The RTU students proposed letting the land grow into a natural, lush meadow. The idea is that by simply stopping mowing and landscaping, wildflowers and grasses will take root and organically beautify the area.

The cabin on stilts was designed to look like a friendly creature, tying in with the theme of nature and wilderness. The quaint structure stands at 4.5 meters or just under 15 feet tall. The sides of the Wild Thing open to allow visitors to sit inside and admire the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
