In an effort to provide a greater range of choices for vegetarians and other health-conscious consumers, Wendy's has begun testing its Black Bean Burger in three different US cities.
The Black Bean Burger consists of a vegetarian patty made from black beans, various grains, vegetables and spices such as oregano and cumin. The patty is then cooked in the oven, which prevents it from coming into contact with other burgers on the grill. Finally, the patty is topped with pepper jack cheese, spring mix, tomato and parmesan ranch sauce. The whole thing is served on a toasted multigrain bun, which provides a healthy alternative to white bread.
The new menu addition demonstrates that fast food restaurants such as Wendy's are eager to expand their vegetarian offerings and attract a new type of consumer.
