A controversial practice that’s gaining in popularity is birth tourism, which hotels are now capitalizing on with birth tourist hotel packages. The idea behind this phenomenon is that expectant mothers stay in hotels in foreign lands with the hopes that their child will be born on foreign soil to get citizenship from that particular country.
For example, New York has many of these hotels popping up in the hopes that these babies will become ‘anchor babies’ and provide their families with the ability to come to the States, thanks to the automatic citizenship you get when born on US soil.
