Bioluminescence is a term that refers to living species that have the capacity to produce and emit light, and the BioGlo aquarium is a distinct piece of decor that quite literally captures this phenomenon.
The BioGlo contains microbes called dinoflagellates, which "have the natural ability to absorb the sun's rays during the day and emit a mysterious blue glow when shaken at night." The aquarium itself comes in a sleek hourglass shape and contains an LED light that powers the frequency and intensity of light that the microbes absorb to later emit, temperature sensing so they remain healthy, a USB port to charge the battery-less device, and timer control settings so that owners can adjust the microbes' circadian rhythms.
