This Haagen-Dazs Japan Ice Cream is Filled with Adzuki Red Beans

— June 24, 2016 — Lifestyle
One of the newest additions to Häagen-Dazs Japan's limited-edition 'Japonais' ice cream collection is a 'Black Syrup Kinako Adzuki' flavor that takes inspiration from traditional Japanese bean desserts. Rather than just offering a one-note flavor, the ice cream boasts four layers, colors and plenty of textures. The topmost layer consists of a dark brown sauce that's made from toasted soybean flour, which sits atop vanilla ice cream. Further down, there is a section of whole red adzuki red beans, as well as a base of brown sugar syrup sorbet.

The limited-edition Japonais range from Häagen-Dazs is exclusively sold through 7-Eleven locations across Japan.

In Japan, Häagen-Dazs has previously experimented with a number of offbeat ice cream flavors like tomato, carrot, sweet potato and pumpkin that play up savory elements.
