Auchan Opened the Doors to an Autonomous Convenience Store in France

French multinational retailer Auchan worked with AI-based smart store solutions provider Cloudpick and recently opened the doors to its first autonomous convenience store in Lille, France. The first fully automated store is free from checkouts and it offers a seamless experience that supports busy consumers who want to grab items and go.

The smart store is equipped with cameras that detect shopper activity and purchases with 99.5% accuracy, and it helps to improve the inner workings of the store, and its stock control and replenishment. Thanks to the implementation of smart technology, the store also offers great insight into consumer behavior so that product placements can be adjusted as needed. At the store, membership is a prerequisite for automated payment, which is part of what supports such a convenient experience from start to finish.
